Five years in the making, recorded and mixed by eight world class engineers, at eight world class studios across the globe, The Red Paintings’ songwriter and producer Trash McSweeney’s innovative conceptual album The Revolution Is Never Coming is due to be released independently through Bird’s Robe Records/MGM Distribution on June 7th 2013.
The Red Paintings are a progressive rock/theatrical performance group originally formed in Geelong and now based between Australia and Los Angeles. The band incorporates themed
costumed stage shows, live art, visual projections (working with local and international artists), and human canvases to create artworks that reflect the band’s music and energy.
Through the donation and support of their fans (who Trash says are “the best in the world”), the band raised the funds to create their highly-anticipated full-length album. The Revolution Is Never Coming showcases the band’s ambitious musical, social, political and creative themes across 13 tracks and includes a 35-piece orchestra, 22-piece choir, harps, theremin and more.
The album was also one of the last to be mixed by the late Bryan Colstrum (Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie) who stated: “In my entire 30 year career I’ve not mixed such a diverse, colourful and emotionally dynamic album such as this. It’s like a 21st century War of the Worlds.”
The epic production of the album was no mean feat however, taking its toll on the health and finances of the band and sending McSweeney, who has synesthesia, around the world to find the right “colours” to shape the record: “Most people create an album around a life. I created a life around an album”.
The results speak for themselves. The album’s incredible sound evokes everything from child-like lullabies of the future, to tearing, biting, alternative-rock numbers. The record has been compared to multi-faceted acts like Radiohead, Coheed and Cambria, Biffy Clyro, Trail of Dead, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse and Brand New.
The Red Paintings have toured themed stage shows relentlessly across the world off the back of four previous EP releases. The band have also been handpicked as support worldwide with
like-minded acts such as Scottish post-rockers MOGWAI, punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls, American poet Saul Williams, The Posies and Atari Teenage Riot. Most recently, the band has been touring theatres across the US with punk group Mindless Self Indulgence and a sold out UK tour with prog rockers The Pineapple Thief.
The Red Paintings are currently gearing up to launch a series of innovative new stage shows for The Revolution Is Never Coming world tour and release, which begins in June 2013. Look out for tours across Australia, Europe, Japan, the UK and the US in 2013/14 in support of the album and single/s release.
“Their haunting lyrics and arrangements play games with your head until Stockholm syndrome finally creeps in. I couldn’t blink, let alone tap my feet. By the encore I was totally fucking
mesmerized. These guys could have told me to have sex with the cigarette machine, and I would have, transformed out of all recognition.” Blunt Magazine
