WA soulstress Mama Kin has been announced as a finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for her single ‘Tore My Heart Out’. She is among the 44 Australian artists up for the international award across 21 categories, which includes artists Sarah Blasko, Troy Cassar-Daley and The Living End. The winner will be announced April 2010, however, unlike many of the artists nominated, Mama Kin is yet to release her debut album.

‘Tore My Heart Out’ is a raw and bittersweet melody, named iTunes, Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph Single of the Week while the film clip was Rage Indie Clip Of The Week.

Mama Kin will wrap up a national tour of sold out headline shows and summer festivals (Nannup, Womadelaide & Woodford) this Friday at an intimate, homecoming show in Fremantle before heading overseas for a European tour where she will be showcasing tunes from her debut album Beat and Holler, due in store through MGM Distribution July, 2010.

Beat and Holler marks the arrival of a sassy, soulful femme fatale, with hints of Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple and Joan As Policewoman. Powerful and gut-wrenchingly honest, Mama Kin's roots-tinged soul conjures the songbird greats.

“really special, totally smouldering … sure to set your soul on fire.” - The Sun Herald

“heartache and melody...pulling you along for a beautiful journey.”
