Augie March Start Album Number Four
Three albums in twelve years. Four years between albums two and three. When Augie March start work on a new album, you know it’s because they’re ready.
Contrary to how it may seem, songwriter Glenn Richards’ output is prolific. But only the very best, blue-chip material makes it through the brutal self-assessment and then band-assessment stages to go on the shortlist to be on the album. That shortlist is now overflowing. Word is, the material is the finest yet.
Fine enough to attract Joe Chiccarelli (Zappa, U2, Beck, The Shins, White Stripes) into the producer’s chair. Joe and the band are heading to Neil Finn’s Auckland studio Roundhead for a month or more from May 26th, 2008, to create the band’s as-yet untitled fourth album, slated for release later this year.
Previous album Moo, You Bloody Choir hit platinum here and was awarded a number of honours, including The Amp Award. Single One Crowded Hour was voted #1 on Triple J’s vast Hottest 100 poll, as well as the APRA Song of the Year. The band spent large parts of 2007 in North America building an ardent fanbase and garnering glowing reviews. In April this year The Honey Month, off Moo, You Bloody Choir was voted the #9 song in UK Magazine Mojo, reader’s top 10 songs poll.
